COLOR THEORY LESSONS. 1st ESO

Here we are again!

It's time to start talking about Color. We only have 3 weeks before the end of the school year!

The first thing we're going to do is take a look at this power point about color:

Artyfactory is a very interesting Art webpage full of information. Please, read the lesson Color terms 1.

ACTIVITIES

1. Mixing colors: In an A4 carbdoard, use your compass to draw 9 circles in 3 lines.  Paint 2 circles in every line with 2 Primary Colors (for example blue and magenta), and the third circle with their mixture.  It must be something like this:

3. Painting like Frank Stella:

Frank Stella is an American painter and printmaker.  He was born in Massachusetts in 1936.  In the 1960's he painted some series of abstract printings using geometric shapes and a great amount of colors.

My suggestion for you is to create an artwork simulating Stella.  So it is: using geometric shapes and a wide range of colors.

Henri Matisse: FENETRE À COLLIOURE. 2n ESO

A 2n d'ESO hem estat treballant el color. Com a exercici pràctic hem volgut reproduir l'obra d'Henri Matisse "Fenêtre à Collioure" utilitzant ceres. Matisse fou un dels creadors del Fauvisme, un moviment pictòric expressionista nascut a principis del segle XX a França. Els Fauvistes ("fauve" vol dir bèstia salvatge en francès) utilitzaven la força del color per donar expressivitat a les seves pintures.

Aquí podeu veure el resultat del treball dels nois i noies de 2n d'ESO.  Felicitats per la feina feta!

The main activity we've done is painting an artwork as André Derain did. Derain (1880-1954) was a French painter. He was one of the founding fathers of Fauvism, and one of its wildest practitioners. Influenced by Van Gogh in 1904 he felt that the impressionists had disintegrated their work into dots excessively. Instead, he chose to use wide, choppy brush strokes of pure color. In 1905, he worked with Matisse to bring the technique to maturity. He painted "Boats at Collioure's harbour" in 1905.
