STUFF TALES PROJECT. 2n ESO

We start the 2nd Term with a new project.  I've called  it "Stuff Tales Project" because we're going to film fairytales made with stuff.

Do you remember the work we did last year emulating Hanoch Piven?  We tried to do creative portraits using different kinds of stuff.

The Stuff Tales Project is inspired on another Hanoch Piven's work.  Did you know that he illustrated some fairy tales in the TV program "Una mà de contes"?  Here you have one of them:"Tatxí-Tatxó i la draga Draga"

Hanoch Piven has also cooperated in other tales. One of them, “Un autoretrat?”, tells the story of a boy with TDAH.  That tale was filmed because of La Marató de TV3 in 2008.  You can find it here.  And this is its story script.

Here bellow, there are more stories illustrated by Piven.  You can get some inspiration from them:

They are really very creative and different from the stories we use to watch on TV.

OUR PROJECT

The aim of the project is to shoot and edit a short movie,  and show it to the students in 1st and 2nd Primaria. These are the instructions:

1. Work in groups (3-4 people)
2. Watch some of the Hanoch Piven's movies to get inspired

3. Choose a classic fairy tale.  It must be an easy, not very long story, because it will be explained to the students in 1st and 2nd Primaria.  Here you have some useful links:

- Storynory: Fairytales from Brothers Gimm, Perrault, Andersen...  You can listen to the audio and read the transcription of the story.
-  Grimm's Fairytales: 209 written tales collected by Brothers Grimm. 

- Fables, fairytales and stories: fables from Aesop, Collodi, Andersen, Brothers Grimm and Lewis Carroll.
- Written short stories with audio: they are classified by age.
- You can also choose a tale in catalan, but you'll have to translate it, of course!

Before doing anything, you must share your choice with your teacher.

4.  Tale's screenplay or script. It must contain:

• Characters
• Dialogues
• Stuff needed
• Voic-over/ narrator
• Music
• Remember this should be a short movie (maximum lenght 8 minutes)

You can read the story scripts of “Una mà de contes” in the web page. Perhaps they can be used as a model. The same with the tale chosen: the teacher must know any part of the script before start shooting.

5. Shooting: filming the movie and recording the voices and dialogues. We will need a video camera and a microphone.
6. Editing.
7. Showing.

DECORACIÓ DE NADAL

Finalment, després de bastantes setmanes de feina, hem penjat la decoració nadalenca que aquest any ha preparat cada escola de Torelló. 

Us faig cinc cèntims del procés.

A mitjans d'octubre l'ajuntament va reunir les escoles del poble per tal d'encarregar-nos la decoració d'una plaça.  Quin encàrrec!, vam exclamar tot el claustre en pes.  Sí, es tractava d'escollir una de les places del poble i, utilitzant materials reciclats, fer-ne la decoració nadalenca.  Una feinada, sí senyor, que no havíem planificat de cap manera, s'immiscuïa enmig del curriculum i havíem d'enllestir en menys de 2 mesos.

Com que l'any passat havia construit unes cortines de taps amb els alumnes de 4t d'ESO, vaig suggerir que podríem utiltizar la mateixa tècnica per simular una nevada de taps blancs i blaus.  Es tractava de convertir la plaça en un paisatge d'hivern, nevat o glaçat.  Es va proposar muntar arbres de nadal amb materials reciclats, i l'Àngels va fer una tasca increïble de cerca de models per internet (beneïda xarxa!).

Pel que fa a la ubicació, en un principi ens havíem decidit per la Placeta d'en Pujol (altrament coneguda com a plaça dels taxis), però després de consultar-ho amb el coixí vam declinar la idea, ja que ens arriscàvem a ser envaïts per la xurreria ambulant (mai absent en aquestes dates) i pel campament reial del 5 de gener.

En una primera inspecció ocular, la comissió que es va formar (l'Àngels, l'Anna, l'Esther, la Jordina i jo, i perdoneu si m'oblido d'algú), va confirmar que la Placeta no s'adeia amb els nostres objectius i, tot rumiant com penjaríem la pluja de taps dels porxos de la segona opció, la Plaça Vella, vam descobrir la infrautilitzada Plaça de Mn. Cinto Verdaguer, amb una magnífica farola plantada al mig que faria les delícies de les nostres cortines.

A continuació calia començar a recollir material.  Ampolles, garrafes, taps de tota mena...  Hem d'agrair la col·laboració de les famílies, que ens van literalment colgar de plàstic.  Un dels pares de l'AMPA, que és fuster, va construir les estructures de fusta que seríen els esquelets dels arbres.  I apa, vinga, a passar estones al taller enfilant taps i enfilant ampolles.  Tothom ha tingut feina, des dels més menuts d'Infantil fins als de 4t d'ESO.

Finalment, ha arribat el matí gèlid de l'11 de desembre.  Teníem la brigada municipal a la nostra disposició (amb grua inclosa) per procedir al muntage.  Ens hem passat tot el matí lligant els fils de les cortines (maleïts embolics!) i muntant els arbres.  Quin fred que hem passat!

El resultat final, com podeu comprovar, és espectacular.  Estem més que orgullosos de la feina feta.  I el millor de tot és que hem compartit estones amb les i els alumnes, les mares i els pares, mestres i professors:  HEM FET ESCOLA.

RESULTS OF RECYCLED PORTRAITS. 1st ESO

These are the artworks resulting from the activity "Recycled Portraits". The pupils had to choose a celebrity and paint it in Hanoch Piven's style. I was really surprised about them. They are very good!

The labels show the name of the artist and his or her subject. Enjoy them!

RECYCLED PORTRAITS BY HANOCH PIVEN. 1st ESO

Hanoch Piven is an Israeli artist who was born in Uruguay in 1963.   He has been living in Barcelona for some years, but at this moment he's living in Israel.

He is famous for his celibrity caricatures, created as collages using common objects and materials, including stuff that might be associated with the subject (for example, tiny brains for a Stephen Hawking's portrait)

His caricatures appear in important newspapers and magazines all around the world: Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, The Times, ...

WORKING WITH TEXTURES. 1st ESO

Here you can see the artworks that students in 1st ESO have done using different materials (wax crayons, paintings, paper, newspapers, rice, beans, sand...) to create texture effects.  They had to choose a famous artwork and recreate it: "Sunflowers" or "The artist's room", by Vincent Van Gogh, "The Scream" by Edvard Munch, "The cock" by Joan Miró, or "Girl with watering can" by Auguste Renoir.

SANT JORDI!

Tot i l'ambient gairebé hivernal que encara es respira, ja tenim aquí la Diada de Sant Jordi.  Des de l'àrea de Visual i Plàstica de l'Escola Rocaprevera hem volgut celebrar-ho engalanant la façana amb una cascada de flors reciclades i el fragment d'un poema de Miquel Martí i Pol.  Les flors, elaborades amb envasos de plàstic, les hem fetes a corre-cuita amb els alumnes de l'optativa d'EVIP de 4t d'ESO.  Us transcric a continuació el fragment del poema "Abril" de Miquel Martí i Pol:

Per això, quan l'abril pinta

tots els marges de color

i fa les nits molt més tèbies

i el cel més encisador,

convé que tots, nois i noies,

cantem ben fort la cançó:

Per l'abril,

si cada gota en val mil,

cada rosa en val deu mil

i cada llibre cent mil.

Bon Sant Jordi a tothom!  I sobretot, no ho oblideu: si compreu un llibre, que sigui EN CATALÀ!

RECYCLED BOTTLE FISH. 1st ESO

Papier mâché or Paper mache is an old modeling technique. For example, in Ancient Egypt coffins and death masks were often made of layers of papirus covered with plaster.

This technique uses pieces of paper bound with and adhesive (glue, starch or wallpaper paste). The paper is cut into strips and soaked in the paste. The strips may be placed onto the surface of an armature or skeleton, or they can be placed on an object to cover it. Wet pieces are allowed to dry slowly, and after some layers they can be painted.

I took this idea from krokotak, a Bulgarian webpage full of magic ideas.  We're going to use empty PET bottles to make coloured funny fishes.

 

We need the next stuff:

• An empty PET bottle from Coke, Fanta or a similar gas drink (gas drink bottles are stronger than water bottles).  They will be our skeleton.
• A piece of cardboard
• Sticky tape.
• Wallpaper glue.
• Newspapers.
• Paintings (if you use tempera, you'll need varnish)

Girls and boys in 1st ESO have been working in them for a couple of weeks, and some of the results are really  surprising (although some of them could be better!)
