Benvinguts! Wellcome!

NATURALIST DRAWING

"Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty if only we have the eyes to see them"
John Ruskin

One of the functions of visual language is describing things.  Many scientists use pictures to describe and explain nature, especially animals, plants and parts of the human body.

Drawing animals and plants as a science exercise is called "Naturalist drawing".  Those pictures are very realistic, because the author wants to show all the details of the living being he has been drawing.  The aim of the artist is that anyone who looks at the picture should be able to recognize it if they see it in real nature.  The picture is part of the author's scientific work.

We are going to practise Naturalist Drawing.  The first activity will be drawing a leaf of a tree we can find in our school's playground.  Please, pay attention to all the details and try to draw and colour it as it is exactly.

LANDSCAPE USING LINES. 2nd ESO

We started working "Basic elements of visual language" drawing and painting with dots.  Now it's time to use lines as main elements in a composition.

In this link you'll find the powerpoint we've been working with.

ACTIVITY: LANDSCAPE USING LINES

Draw and colour a landscape using different kinds of lines (wavy, straight, horizontal, curved...).  Try to give the composition a sensation of depht, tracing thicker or thinner lines depending on their distance.  If the part of the landscape that you want to represent is closer, use a thicker line than if it's farther.

Material required:

  •  Coloured pencils and felt-tipped pens
  • Set square, ruler.
  • DIN A4 cardboard with 2cm frame.

You can get inspired by these compositions made by other students (taken from the blog plasticaeso)

POSTCARDS FROM YOUR TOWN. 2nd ESO

Our new project consists on creating a collection of postcards from our town.
Postcards should be up-to-date and attractive designed. To achieve our goal we are going to use  Online Photo Editors.

We are going to start practising with some photo editors that let apply photo effects such as painting, converting into a drawing, an oilpainting or an old picture.

You will find these photo editors here.

Postcards from our town, step by step

  1. Think about significant places or monuments in Torelló, for example buildings, churches, squares, streets...
  2. Get a camera and take photos of your theme. Try to be original and to use different points of view.
  3. Choose the photo you think it is the best one.
  4. Apply some photo effects using any online photo editor we have been practising with.
  5. You can also add some text (for example, the name of your theme).
  6. The result should be as attractive as a postcard you could find in a souvenirs shop.
  7. Send the result to the teacher by e-mail.

Remember:  this is an individual work!

I hope you enjoy it!

STUFF TALES PROJECT: VIDEOS READY!

Disfruteu-los!

Stuff Tales Project has some videos ready.  But not all of them.  We have had some technical difficulties, also lack of material (we had only 2 domestic cameras available, and one of them broke after a few days).  The project has been so long (we've been working in it for 2 whole trimesters!), and the last weeks students were so tired and demotivated.

By the moment, we only can share 2 movies: Goldilocks and Alice in Wonderland.  If we receive more, we're going to show you them.

Next Thursday 4th July Centre d'Arts Contemporànies de Vic opens an exhibition showing all the Artworks included in Art i Escola 02 project.

Here they are.  Enjoy them!

STUFF TALES PROJECT. 2n ESO

We start the 2nd Term with a new project.  I've called  it "Stuff Tales Project" because we're going to film fairytales made with stuff.

Do you remember the work we did last year emulating Hanoch Piven?  We tried to do creative portraits using different kinds of stuff.
The Stuff Tales Project is inspired on another Hanoch Piven's work.  Did you know that he illustrated some fairy tales in the TV program "Una mà de contes"?  Here you have one of them:"Tatxí-Tatxó i la draga Draga"

Hanoch Piven has also cooperated in other tales. One of them, “Un autoretrat?”, tells the story of a boy with TDAH.  That tale was filmed because of La Marató de TV3 in 2008.  You can find it here.  And this is its story script.

Here bellow, there are more stories illustrated by Piven.  You can get some inspiration from them:

They are really very creative and different from the stories we use to watch on TV.

OUR PROJECT

The aim of the project is to shoot and edit a short movie,  and show it to the students in 1st and 2nd Primaria. These are the instructions:

1. Work in groups (3-4 people)
2. Watch some of the Hanoch Piven's movies to get inspired

3. Choose a classic fairy tale.  It must be an easy, not very long story, because it will be explained to the students in 1st and 2nd Primaria.  Here you have some useful links:
Storynory: Fairytales from Brothers Gimm, Perrault, Andersen...  You can listen to the audio and read the transcription of the story.
-  Grimm's Fairytales: 209 written tales collected by Brothers Grimm.

Fables, fairytales and stories: fables from Aesop, Collodi, Andersen, Brothers Grimm and Lewis Carroll.
Written short stories with audio: they are classified by age.
- You can also choose a tale in catalan, but you'll have to translate it, of course!

Before doing anything, you must share your choice with your teacher.

4.  Tale's screenplay or script. It must contain:

  • Characters
  • Dialogues
  • Stuff needed
  • Voic-over/ narrator
  • Music
  • Remember this should be a short movie (maximum lenght 8 minutes)
You can read the story scripts of “Una mà de contes” in the web page. Perhaps they can be used as a model. The same with the tale chosen: the teacher must know any part of the script before start shooting.

    5. Shooting: filming the movie and recording the voices and dialogues. We will need a video camera and a microphone.
    6. Editing.
    7. Showing.

Of course, you can ask me any question. If you need, you can write a comment in the blog.
I think it'll be a nice work to do! So, let's start!

    Good luck!

ELEMENTS OF VISUAL LANGUAGE: DOTS. 1st ESO

All the images around us (drawings, pictures, paintings, publicity images...) are formed by the basic elements of visual language: dots, lines, shapes, texture and colour.

We start talking about dots, and we are going to practise using an awesome technique: Pointillism.

      TEXTURES. 1st ESO

Texture is one of the elements of visual language.  Everything, including works of art, has a texture or surface.
In this unit we will discover how many types of textures we can meet and some techniques we can use to create texture effects.

In the next slides you can learn some interesting things about textures:

      Textures
      View more PowerPoint from dolorscubi

You can also watch to these videos. They show some techniques to create textures:

      Practising textures in the Net

       1.  Jackson Pollock was an American artist who painted creating different textures.  He had an special style called drip painting.  You can see him painting in this video:

In the web page jacksonpollock.org, you can try painting in his particular style.

      2. Virtual Collages
Collage is one of the most used art techniques to work with textures.
Thanks to the blog "Las TIC en plástica" I've found some interesting applications to perform virtual collages.

      COLOUR. 1st ESO

Students practising with colours. They worked inspired by Robert and Sonia Delaunay's artwork, only using primary colours, black and white, and their mixtures.
Robert Delaunay - Joie de vivre

      Robert Delaunay - Rythme 1

And this is the result of their inspiration:
