Benvinguts! Wellcome!

LOGOS. 1st ESO

Before finishing the school year, I've thought it could be a good idea to learn something about publicity and graphic design.
As we don't have enough time (only 2 sessions left) we are only going to talk about logos.

Do you know what a logo is?
The word "logo" means "word" in ancient greek.  In graphic design, this "word" is the name of the product, the company or the institution that the logo represents.
Logos were used by ancient greeks and romans in their coins.  In the Middle Age, craftsmen used logos to identify their work and as a symbol of quality of the product.

Nowadays our life is full of logos.  Nearly everything we use (our clothes, food, toys, electric appliances,...) has its own logo.

Logorama is a short movie by Nicholas Schmerkin.  It won the Oscar to the best film in its category.  Watch it and try to identify some of the more than 2500 logos you can see there. Don't worry, the subtittles are in Spanish.

But...  why are logos easy to remember?
Because they are very simple, poor-coloured... and, of course, we see them everywhere every day!
Here you have some slides about logos and their design:

And finally,  you'll find useful information about logos and publicity in the following web pages:

ACTIVITY: CREATING OUR OWN LOGO!
  1. Create your own logo using the first letter of your name and surnames.
  2. Use the recommendations above.  You can get inspired by some of the previous web pages.
  3. You can also use an online logo creator for a sketch.
  4. Draw your final logo in an A4 cardboard.  Colour it with felt-tipped pens.  Remember you can't use more than 3 colours!
